Darren J. de Leon
Darren J. de Leon is an award winning poet from San Bernardino, CA, podcast producer and radio host of Radio Aztlan at 88.3 fm KUCR.org. As a former host and producer of Radio 2050 at Pacifica's KPFA in Berkeley, CA for 12 years, he delved into the Xicanx Art Scene by profiling and interviewing over 300 artists working in collaboration with community organizations or issues. He is one of the most listened to voices about Contemporary Latinx art in the West Coast, and one of the most knowledgeable amateur ethnomusicologist of contemporary traditional and dance music.
In 1996, he co-founded Los Delicados, the leaders of Latinx Spoken Word scene in San Francisco, CA. He produced Project 1521, a podcast about the collective efforts of Poets, Writers, and Artists addressing the 500 years since the fall of Tenochtitlan, and Podcast Descarga: The History of Los Delicados. He was an English teacher at Real Alternatives Program High School in the 90's. Currently, he practices gardening as an expression of self-determination.
